OF HIS RESTORATION.
We are so happy to
have had three boy dolls finally after all
this time. What a joy it has been to
restore them to almost brand new.
To us, it is
rather strange that Ideal would use the same
red lips and cheeks as the girl and even
allow the wig to remain long with banana
bangs. But since we know of no 40's type
hairdos on the girl Saucy Walkers I can see
why they rolled the hair in the back.
If they had cut the hair, the saran would
and does separate and shows the wig cap
(like a bald spot) where the saran is sewn
to the cap. So there you go, rolled
hair or bust! I might make note that a mom
must have cut this boys hair a bit in the
back and the bangs to add that boy look to
him and THEN found out that it was a mistake
to not pin down this type of wig, so we
pinned it. All the doll has to do is move and
a bald spot will inevitably appear on these
saran wigs if cut.
I spoke the the
owner of the boy doll in Judith Izen's Ideal
3rd Edition book above. Such a nice
lady who told me that she had adopted him
out and does remember him having those
banana bangs. She also remembers the
white vinyl molded Ideal shoes as well.
So we ran across the
boy in the red outfit with red socks and a pair of what
looks like a boys original leather sued
boots. So refreshing to see the doll in boy
shoes instead of the girl's while molded
vinyl shoes, needless to say. So, we
asked Michele of http://thisolddoll.com
to make us duplicates from just our photo
for this boy...I was amazed at the quality!!! The
woman constantly amazes me with her
expertise. This boy has the duplicates on
and the socks she also made to match his
outfit...and as you can see it is hard to
tell the original boots from the duplicate.
Lois, the best
"older doll replica seamstress"
also made the little caps for all of our boy
dolls from a photo of the original that she
had available. Her email is: toniwear@aol.com
She also made, to my
amazement, the replica boys outfit on
Melanie's doll on our front page.
Now as far as
what we have done is to do our best to
return the doll's body to a like-new
condition and we succeeded in that quite
well. No Saucy Blend Air Brushing on his
body and just a spritz of blushing on his
hands. So far I have not seen blushing
on the boys knees so we did not blush
them. Dr, Hubby as always took the
walking mechanism apart and he walks
perfectly.
He has been lightly sanded
to remove age and make the plastic look
softer. His clothing has been soaked
and cleaned and ironed and mended so
slightly they were and are in Excellent
condition. We did not replace the
elastic on his shorts because they still fit
him well. We did iron on a small patch
on his Onesie in the back at the neck.
His eyes have
been polished and repaired and we have set
in our preventative platforms to insure that
his eyes should never roll up again. We always encourage our new Mommies never to
drop the Saucy Walkers on their heads
however, we've been there, done that and got
the t-shirt, and was amazed and very
fortunate that our own doll's eyes looked
just as good as they did before the fall.
Very handsome
little boy and we have added the Ideal vinyl
shoes and a replacement pair of socks as you
can see in the photos above just in case the
new owner would prefer him in them.
