Pam's 22" Saucy Walker Doll With Rod Connections From Head To Torso

This Doll Is a Rare Saucy From Ideal.  One of the first issue dolls made in 1951.

DESCRIPTION:

This type doll has only surfaced with us once so far...We have had her from a long time now and are preparing her surgery. We have never seen before a 22" Ideal Toy Corp. Doll like this one.  She has a rod, factory installed from the top of her head to the inside of her Torso.  The connection of the 2 rods will meet together at the arm level.

How we can tell that this very old and more than likely one of IDEAL'S first Saucy Walkers is factory done is this:  Inside the head, there is no rod going from one side to the other like so many of the Saucy heads have..  At the very top of the inside of her head there is one large molded area for the rod to fit into. The factory also put a piece of gauze and glue to reinforce it.  See all photos below.  You will also see another Saucy head below that does not include the molded area for the rod.  The Rod Doll above also has no molded area on the sides of her head for a metal rod to hold an elastic band either but the other Saucy Head does.

Her hair is Saran and uncut by a child.  This rod 22" Saucy Walker doll was one of the first before the band connection from torso to head so they more than likely did not think of braids for her at that time.  The hair has been on curlers for months so it is pretty tightly curled.  When wet it is about another 1/2" longer.  Ideal wigs were not the best so even though the hair looks very thick it has sections from the factory that has no hair covering the scalp because the hair above was purposed to cover that area as well.  Hard to explain but she is not missing any hair.  Larger ringlets might have done better instead of our curling the hair in smaller ones.

Her torso is a replacement but she has her original legs and Mama crier that does work loudly and all of her rod and walking mechanism on the inside except a couple of new screws are all original.  Since her head is connected to her torso with a metal rod, her head is ridged and will turn with every step she takes but ht cannot be pulled down  at the chin not turned left or right without the leg being moved to turn her head right or left.  I can readily see why they did not continue with this design.

Her little replica styled dress with Pinafore is made by our seamstress, Lois at toniwear@aol.com.  Please see her doll clothing here

Thank you for your interest.  This doll is SALE PENDING...Not for sale at this time. Our Florida collector wants us to give her first chance at the purchase. We will be adding another 22" Saucy Walker Doll dressed in similar Disney type clothing soon.  We are posting this doll now as an interest page for the Saucy Walker Doll History information for Ideal Saucy Walkers of the 1950's.

This doll is amazingly more beautiful in the real.  These photos do her no justice.

Example of another regular IDEAL Saucy head on the inside.

Perfect Eye Lids. We did not paint her head at all

Right after her surgery Paint is dry and she is ready to put back together.  Dr.Hubby has to make a special Rod connection in her torso to secure it. The oil paint is a special blend for the Saucy Walker made especially for us by: http://thisolddoll.com.  Gorgeous Job!!
