DESCRIPTION:
Here
is yet another doll that we decided had lots of
potential to undergo our restoration, so we fixed
her...plain and simple. We specialize in the 1950's
Ideal Toy Corp. 22" Saucy Walkers, not Alexander
dolls so go easy on us please. We actually feel like she
would be loved by someone who may not have had the
chance to have a Madame Alexander doll in the later
fifties. We are fully aware that she may not be
perfect enough for a collector of Madame Alexander
"Elise" dolls.
Her
little face was darkened and so was her jointed vinyl
arms. Her torso and jointed legs were fine.
She has all of her fingers and toes and there are no
cracks or splits. Her little feet are jointed and work
perfectly into a high heel position or a flatter
position.
We
bought her with her tagged blue dress, full petticoat
and matching panties. She was not strung so we took care
of that and used our Surgical Elastic Cord tubing in a
more secure pattern than normal. We used 4 Elastic
Cord Tubing's and plenty of hooks and decided our way of
doing it was best. More expensive to do it that
way but we like our dolls strong and tight.
To
rid her of her darkness and return her back to her
original skin tone we tried a few things to no avail
until we discovered what we call out magic formula. That
of course remains a business secret. We spared her
eyebrows and had to re-apply her blushing. Her
hair has been thoroughly cleaned and still has some of
it's original shine. From what we can determine
she has all of her hair and her original
curls. Her eyes are not like brand new but I
was surprised that they were as clear as they are with
some hazing on the lenses. She is a small doll so
to me it not a big detriment to her looks but there is a
tiny knick on her nose that you may be able to see in a
close up photo.
Her
lips are beautiful and we touched up a teeny area at the
top of her upper lip and applied the shine. Her lashes
are fine and none are missing that we know of. Her eye
lids are perfect and pink. From what we have
learned the eyelids were painted certain colors at
different time periods. There are still a few of
her lower lashes left and faint but they are there. This
doll is very old and not to be thought of as
perfect. We bought her new earrings and her ears
are clear. Her jointed arms move very well and so
does her legs.
Her
dress had a few small tears on it and we did not sew it,
we used and iron on patch instead in those three
places. You have to look closely to see
them. One of her waist ribbons is a bit torn but
it hides very well within the bow itself so it is not
visible. We were happy about that. There are I
believe 2 yellowish spots on her dress...One can be seen
in her handbag photo. The other one is on the top
of one of her sleeves. We soaked the dress in a
solution to remove most of the yellowing. We also soaked
the petticoat and panties but they did not come back as
white as we would have liked to see them. Both are
in good condition as we also machine mended
approximately a 1/2 inch area at the waist of her
petticoat. We used the same zig zag pattern that
the factory used. Her panties required no mending.
Her
little shoes are adorable and made very well, we bought
those as well as her pair of hosiery. We are guilty as
we accidentally caused a tiny hole in the top of one of
the hosiery, however, there is no running. We purchased
her hat and purse with flowers to be special made for
her. We are very impressed with the man Richard,
who designs these accessories and if you are in need of
something along this line for a doll this size, He also carry's many
other items that are of interest as well. His email
address is: RtroRich@aol.com
The
earlier "Elise" Madame Alexander dolls with
all original accessories are valued anywhere from
$400.00 on up and because of her trials over the years
and our efforts to restore her back to as close as she
might have looked in the later 50's, we have taken that
into consideration in our pricing of this doll. We have
had some cost with her and many weeks in our efforts to
make her available. She is a beautiful doll despite her
flaws. Her new Kaiser doll stand is included. We
have applied a layer of Velcro on the stand and at the
bottom of her shoes to insure that she does not slip off
of that stand.
